In Dr. Marshall’s class this week, we discussed modules 6,7, and 8. Module 6 was all
about the brain and its functions. We learned about the brain stem, the cerebellum, the thalamus,
the hypothalamus, cerebrum, and the spinal cord. After this lesson with Dr. Marshall, I got to my
CT’s classroom the next morning and she said we could be taking the students to a More Health
presentation today. When we got to the classroom where the More Health presentation was
taking place, I saw on the presenter’s display board that this was going to be all about the brain.
It was ironic that I just had learned what he function of our brain preformed and the following
day my students were learning the same thing. In her presentation, she had really fun and
engaging activities for the students to do that dealt with the brain. The kids loved feeling the
squishy brain, learning how to protect their brain, and learning what each of the parts of the brain
did.
After the presentation, they took a post test to see if they had grasped the information they
had learned in the presentation. As the students asked me questions about their test, I was able to
give them helpful hints and tips because I had just learned all of this information in Dr.
Marshall’s class. It was really helpful to learn the parts of the brain and their functions at the
same time my students were learning it. I felt confident with helping them through their post
tests and they loved that I was walking around making sure they were understanding each
question.
